Recently I posted this picture up on Flickr and I had noticed I am now a Flickr Pro member. I had not been a pro member previously since they discontinued their Yahoo! DSL account free membership. I noticed on my account that it said:

“You have a Pro account, at no cost as long as you keep your Yahoo! service.”

I checked my Flickr message, Yahoo! email and I even searched on google, google news, their twitter  page and twitter search for more of an explanation but couldn’t find anything. It seems like I might be the only one who got a free account. I don’t want to contact Flickr and have them realize they made a mistake and take it away from me. I guess I lucked out, so I’m not complaining. Thanks Yahoo!/Flickr! =)

It would display the apple logo and go blank again. Apparently it was due to a RockApp/Cydia update and it seems like I’m not the only one:

I personally didn’t follow this fix and therefore cannot fully endorse it.

I was careless and grew impatient not being able to use my iPhone. Therefore, I restored it to firmware 3.1.3 which is currently un-lockable and un-tetherable but was still able to jailbreak it with the spirit jailbreak. In the process, I lost about 10 months worth of photos and videos. I didn’t realized I had un-checked the photo sync until it was too late. I had no backup and I had erased my only copies on my phone.

I definitely learned from this experience and hope nobody ever goes through the same. I will certainly think about backing up data on my iPhone more often than 10 months. =P

I do appreciate how all the questions are asked in the beginning of the installation and therefore do not have to babysit it, with one exception. When the installation is at 85%, it is trying to retrieve a language pack from an Ubuntu server. I assume it is their main server because it was completely slammed on the day Ubuntu 10.04 was released. Luckily they have a skip button but wouldn’t it be nice if they had a choose server button? Because some of us want a completed installation and also know the best server to download from. So far, I have not needed the language pack that I have skipped or anything after that.

The exit, minimize, maximize button are switched from the right side of the toolbar to the left side of the toolbar. This gives it a more Mac-like appearance. This can easily be changed by simply changing the desktop theme. System > Preferences > Appearance. I prefer the Ubuntu Studio Theme which can be installed by this command: “sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-look”

Wow, Ubuntu is getting stingy with their CDs nowadays. I just wanted one official CD because I’m such a big fan but it looks like Ubuntu is holding out on me this time. Must be the economy….. but then again they never made any money on their OS anyways!?!?

Ubuntu is my preferred Linux distribution and I’m extremely excited about their latest release. I have downloaded the ISO after waiting several hours and am currently installing it now. I plan on wiping all five work and home Linux systems and eventually install MythTV on at least two of my home systems. I may post a tutorial and my experience afterwards.
