Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx initial review
By ELIMinator On May 4th, 2010The installation overall ran fairly smoothly on the two systems I installed it on. I do appreciate how all the questions are asked in the beginning of the installation and therefore do not have to babysit it, with one exception. When the installation is at 85%, it is trying to retrieve a language pack from an Ubuntu server. I assume it is their main server because it was completely slammed on the day Ubuntu 10.04 was released. Luckily they have a skip button but wouldn’t it be nice if they had a choose server button? Because some of us want a completed installation and also know the best server to download from. So far, I have not needed the language pack that I have skipped or anything after that.
The exit, minimize, maximize button are switched from the right side of the toolbar to the left side of the toolbar. This gives it a more Mac-like appearance. This can easily be changed by simply changing the desktop theme. System > Preferences > Appearance. I prefer the Ubuntu Studio Theme which can be installed by this command: “sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-look”
